Enjoying 300 days of sun each year and surrounded by the warm azure waters of the Mediterranean, Malta is an ideal location for rock climbing. With a south coastline that is mostly cliff with deep-cut valleys running down to the sea, the entire landscape seems to be designed as a rock climber’s dream. The exposed coralline limestone makes for fantastic rock formations that offer slabs, walls and overhangs to delight beginners and expert climbers alike.

Major climbing areas in Malta include: Wied Babu, ix-Xaqqa, Ghar Lapsi, Victoria Lines. In Gozo the major areas are Mgarr ix-Xini, Wied il-Mielah and near Sopu Tower, San Blas area. Most locations have a good mix of sport & trad in easier and harder climbs. On the very rare wet and rainy days you can indoor climb in Malta at Gymnasia, Paola and the Scout hall in Sliema and at the Gozo sports complex in Victoria.
